Gum disease is a gum infection that damages the soft tissue which can destroy the bone that supports the teeth. There is a variety of treatments for gum disease depending upon the condition of the disease and the overall health of gum. The treatment range from non-surgical treatment to surgical treatment.
There are two common type of gum disease:
- Gingivitis: Gingivitis is a form of gum disease which often causes painful inflammation of the gums. It occurs due to plaque buildup on the teeth. Gingivitis often resolves with good oral hygiene, such as frequent brushing, and regular flossing.
- Periodontitis: It is a gum disease, which damages the soft tissue and can cause teeth to loosen or lead to tooth loss. It occurs due to poor oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing daily and getting regular dental checkups will improve the chances of successful treatment for periodontitis and can also reduce the chance of developing it.
